Our team

Passionate and experienced leaders

Our highly experienced leadership team brings diverse expertise and a shared commitment to nurturing every student’s growth—academically, socially, and personally. Their vision and care set the tone for our whole School, fostering a culture where our values and behaviours are lived every day.
Steven Coote
Principal

Education is really about becoming. It’s about learning who you are, growing in character, and discovering how you can contribute to the world around you. Young people don’t need to be remade; they need to be known, challenged, and supported as they find their own way forward. Each child carries God-given worth and purpose, and good learning honours this by well designed care, high expectations, and real opportunities to serve. At its best, BMGS is a place where our young people grow not just in knowledge, but into thoughtful, generous people.

Owen Laffin
Deputy Principal

As Deputy Principal I have the enormous pleasure of seeing all of our students, from our very youngest Pre-Kindergarten children to our graduating Year 12s, explore their worlds, grow and learn. For me, it is a privilege to walk alongside our students and their families, through the easy seasons and the challenging ones, as they navigate the joys and complexities of growing up.

Alicia Michielsen
Head of Senior School

As Head of Senior School, I love seeing our students grow into confident, capable young adults who are supported by passionate teachers and a genuinely caring community. What makes BMGS special is the balance between high academic expectations and strong pastoral care, where every student is known, valued, and encouraged to pursue their unique strengths.

Chris Sanders
Assistant Principal, Junior Learning Community

I am passionate about unlocking the potential in every teacher and every child. By growing expert educators and building solid foundations, we create a Junior School learning culture where curiosity, creativity and the skills for life can thrive.

The Leadership Greenhouse

At 91ÇÑ×Ó Grammar School, we believe that great schools are grown by great people. The Leadership Greenhouse is our embedded professional learning and leadership development program—an incubator for change designed to nurture, empower, and grow the talents of our staff.

Like a greenhouse, its strength lies in creating the right environment. Through workshops, mentoring, and collaboration with thought leaders, we create an environment that enables staff to experiment, adapt, and thrive. Teachers are not pulled along a path; they are supported to step into it, take ownership, and lead boldly.

Meet our teachers

Our teachers are dedicated, talented, and deeply invested in their students’ success. They combine pedagogical expertise with genuine care, guiding each learner to grow in confidence and capability. Meet some of the people who make BMGS such a vibrant place to learn.

Danielle Pearson
Dean of Students and Maths Teacher

As Dean of Students, I feel privileged to work alongside young people at BMGS who are curious and driven to grow. One of the greatest joys of my role is caring for and guiding students as they grow into confident, compassionate individuals. Each day, I see them striving to learn, lead, and create change. We are nurturing changemakers who are discovering their strengths and shaping their future pathways in a community that ensures they feel supported and able to flourish.

Adrian Michielsen
HSIE Teacher and Head of Hughes House

My love for teaching comes from the teachers who made learning exciting and meaningful for me, particularly when I faced my own learning and communication challenges. Having once been a student here myself, it means a great deal to now be part of this community and to help create the same sense of support and belonging for the next generation.

Amal Siorokos
Dean of Students (Years 7-9) and Visual Arts Teacher

What I love most about working at BMGS is the strong sense of community that shapes everything we do. There is genuine warmth here, built on trust, respect, and meaningful relationships. We value not only academic growth but also creativity, curiosity, and character. My hope is to continue seeing students’ lives enriched and inspired as they connect, think deeply, and find purpose in learning through joy and wonder.

Isabelle Coote with Millie the Happiness Dog
Odyssey and HSIE Teacher, Head of Pitt House

I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of the BMGS community, a place that values curiosity, creativity, and connection. I love seeing students grow in confidence as they discover their strengths, take on challenges, and support one another. BMGS is more than a school — it is a place where students and staff are encouraged to explore ideas, build meaningful connections, and grow together.

Mary Shelley
Head of Maths

I love teaching for those light-bulb moments when students truly understand the why. At BMGS, I value our caring community and strong pastoral focus. Surrounded by beautiful grounds, I’m reminded daily of God’s love and the care that underpins all we do for our students.

Caroline Heathcote
Learning Enrichment Teacher

I believe every child is created special and has the potential to achieve their goals with the right supports and opportunities. I am excited to work at BMGS as part of a community committed to rich, responsive learning experiences. Seeing students develop the skills to identify problems, collaborate, and apply creative solutions gives me great hope for the future.

John Forbes
Stage 3 Teacher

BMGS celebrates difference and allows children to excel in all aspects of school life. Students can love performing arts and sport, mathematics and creativity. We celebrate the holistic learner, and it is incredibly rewarding as a teacher to help bring that out in every student.

Ty Culbert
Stage 2 Teacher

I love teaching at BMGS because curiosity is truly valued here. Teachers are trusted to follow student interests and explore ideas beyond the expected. That freedom makes learning feel alive and purposeful, allowing both students and teachers to grow and be inspired.

Michelle O'Keefe
Deputy Head of Junior School - Culture and Care

As a classroom teacher, I’m passionate about engaging students in meaningful conversations that challenge thinking and build perseverance. As Deputy Head of Primary, I love supporting students through personal or academic challenges and helping staff develop programs that foster strong learning and essential life skills.

Tristan Forsyth
Head of Humanties and Cultural Studies

The best part of teaching is seeing students think independently and find actual purpose in what they are doing. Those moments when curiosity overcomes them and ideas cross over are what drive me.

At BMGS, I am given the freedom to make learning concrete and experience-based, connecting ideas to the world beyond and giving students space to ask questions, invent, and develop confidence.

Elora Ghea
Science Teacher

I love teaching Science at BMGS because students are inquisitive, passionate, and always looking to understand how the concepts they learn in class relate to the world around them.

At BMGS students don’t just learn science in the abstract – they investigate the world around them, observing how physics, chemistry, and biology play out in the 91ÇÑ×Ó environment.
